Water Latern Festival, Laurelhurst Park, Portland OR
This entry is more personal than usual. It may be somewhat of a shock to some, so brace yourself. My sister, who had been dealing with cancer for the past 11 years, passed away peacefully last Friday. She was 53. As fate would have it, the Water Lantern Festival was taking place on Saturday here in Portland. I went to make a tribute to her, my mother and father. Eric, a couple of other friends and I went down to Laurelhurst Park where it was held. Taking part in this event allowed me to express some of my feelings about the loss.Thanks to Dave for the photo of me.
There were hundreds of others creating beautiful sentiments, from positive affirmations, to messages of love and other memorials. My sister was well loved by many, and raised two incredible kids despite her illness. Spiritually, she is relieved to not have her attention on fighting this thing anymore. I will miss her.
