Fresh Douglas Fir Cones, Gladstone OR
Went for a walk along the Clackamas River and found some new pine cones. Botanists and others who identify the seed bracts look for the “squashed rats” sticking out of the cones (see the tails?). They are easier to see closer to the top of the cone.
