Postscript: West Africa

There were many images I couldn’t upload until I got home. Here are a few.

Dog on beach, Hovercraft port, Freetown Sierra Leone

Hovercraft & canoe, Freeport, Sierra Leone

The city of Freeport and the airport is separated by a wide bay that is very long. You can see the other side in the distance. It would take a day to drive. There are three ways to get across this bay:
Ferry: ride with everyone and everything – livestock notwithstanding.
Helicopter: recently grounded (one crashed just weeks prior, with fatal consequences…)
Hovercraft: the best of both worlds. Pricey, but you get to float right up onto the beach :-). And the captain is British.
Elmina (Slave) Castle, Elmina, Ghana
One of two slave castles we visited. It’s now a museum.

This is the men’s slave cell. This part of the trip could be an entire blog in itself.

Sammy Jacobs-Abbey and Tim with Tim’s favorite beach in the backgound.
