14 Annual Joshua Tree National Part Art Show

Last weekend I worked in two of my favorite areas: The desert and a wedding in Pasadena.

In 29 Palms where the art show is held, the weather was great – in the high ’70’s. The air was clean. Not so many flowers this year (because the rain came late) but it was worth both trips to open my eyes and have the orange and blue mountains in sunrise as the first thing I see. (Platter at left made by Terry & ChinLee, the first artist I spoke to about getting into this show)

There was an artist who’s known as Ollaman (pronounced OY – ah) who makes these wonderful ollas from hand dug clay he finds, and he fires them in a campfire, painting them with natural minirals and pigments. He’s been doing it since he was 14, something his native american grandmother taught him. Then then there is Wally Pacholka. Wally has mastered the night sky (photographically speaking) and captures the heavenly events on film. His work has been featured in many magazines. I met him last year for the first time and his booth was right next to mine.

You’ll love his work!

It never fails. Even after all the years that I have gone to this show, I still get butterflies of excitement as I turn onto National Park Blvd. I know I’ll be seeing some of my favorite people. And it always seems to go by all to quickly.
