Washington Sketches Part 2

This past weekend we went to Mt Rainer. It is an active volcano and not too far from Mt. St. Helens. This mountain can be seen for miles and miles. We can’t see it from our place, but here is a hill nearby that gives a fantastic view of it on a clear day. It is arresting (to us) every time we see it. Especially when it looms behind the Seattle skyline.

The forecast was for rain, but it did more than that. So we couldn’t see the top of the mountain. It was a fun trip until we hit snow. This post is about the fun part.

We had as our goal to visit the new visitor center in the park (Check out that link for some interesting facts about the Park).

On the way up, we took a turnoff to see a view. As soon as we stopped, some birds appeared out of nowhere. We had some trail mix and threw some out the window on the passenger side. Of course they wasted no time in eating it. Eric predicted that I could porbably get one to eat out of my hand. He was right! Before I could break up the peanuts, that bird was already flying over and lit on my fingertips! It was soo cool (yes, there are pictures – the link is below!)
