A friend of mine told me about an annual event here in Washington, the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, which runs the month of April and into early May. It seemed the bloom was late this year. So Eric and I decided to go out on a Thursday to beat the crowds.
We headed up to the Skagit Valley around 4PM. We had both been working and just needed something fun to gaze upon for a while. This festival is a huge deal here, which is nice because it was easy to find: just about any gas station was giving away maps to the farms. There’s a route to drive and some of the flowers had already peaked, but others were just getting started. We stopped at a roadside stand to pick up a snack, The Snow Goose Produce Stand to be exact. I saw a sign that boasted ‘immodest ice cream cones’. As Eric picked out some fresh morel mushrooms, and some yummy smoked salmon belly strips, I watch a couple walk away with the LARGEST ICE CREAM SCOOPS I’d ever seen. It looked close to a full pint on each of the fresh baked waffle cones! As it turns out, the owners are Foodies, too.
We meandered a little, and finally found tulips at The RoosenGaarde Farms. The light was just getting good. So we just made pretty pictures. You get two interpretations in this post, mine and Eric’s.

Just as we were leaving, the light was perfect on this barn!
