#119 of Things To Do in Portland: Visit the Kennedy School.

We went there today to attend a wedding show and went on to discover this gorgeous old school. When I took this photo, we weren’t sure what this place was, but we knew it was cool. Part history lesson, hotel, art gallery and part food/bar venue, this beautiful building holds a special place in the hearts of Portland folks. A lot of the original school signage has been preserved, and some of the classrooms have been converted into hotel rooms.

The McMenamins Company, who bought the property around 1997 after it sat vacant, it’s future uncertain, has several bars/entertainment venues throughout Washington and Oregon. Whimsical art of all kinds cover the walls at all their locations. And judging by the posters that hang on the walls. just about every major artist has performed at the Edgefield location.

The food is good, the beer is great and the atmosphere is very friendly. The school auditorium here has been converted into a movie theater with sofas for seating. We can’t wait to bring our friends here.
