…or Dancing with Bees and Eric likes to call it.
Went to the Sequim Lavender Festival this year. I had seen some images from last year by my friend Jeff C and knew I didn’t want to miss this. It’s about 130 miles from Seattle but worth the trip.
I was able to get some photographic sketches in at a couple of farms. Lots of variations to play with. I also had no idea there were so many types of lavender. There are varieties made to cook with, some not so much. The owner of Sunshine Lavender Farm gave a really nice tour and explanation of the different varieties to gourmets and gardeners alike. All the farms had some sort of lavender flavored food.
We spent a bout an hour at the first stop and then moved on to the Purple Haze Farm. Located on Bellbottom Road (fer real), this place rocked! From lavender margaritas, to lavender smoked salmon sandwiches, it was no contest that this was going to be where we’d have lunch. They also had a stage with several bands coming through. My favorite was Hot Club Sandwich – a Gypsy jazz band a la Django & Grapelli. You can hear samples on their website under music. Great players all of them.
Then we went into the heart of the festival. Saw lots of art and lavender and crafts and lavender and more food and more lavender. Unlike other scents, it really was pleasant to be around. As for the bees, one of the farm staff told me that the bees were pretty mellow because of the lavender.
Also met these artists from Convergence Design. I spoke with Jeremy and he explained how he made the botanical tiles. They came from upstate New York and just do art shows. I LOVED the colorful tiles they made. We had to have one piece.
After the show, we made it to one last farm. Then it was up to Hurricane Ridge. But that will be for another post. Enjoy the pictures 🙂
