I think one key element is to lighten up on the pressure. No one can make a masterpiece a day. The point of a quotidian act of art making is to prepare yourself to recognize a masterpiece when the rare moment occurs. It helps you to become agnostic toward subject matter. Anything will do, because it often has to. And you learn how to drop into the Zone at a moment's notice and make something compelling out of the ordinary.

Then, there's that moment at 10pm when you go, yikes!, and have to go find something in the yard that looks good under streetlamp light.
