Monrovia

Tim in his element. Corner of Gurley & Broad Street.
A Charles Taylor anecdote: Apparently, when Taylor’s convoy would move in Monrovia, they would take up BOTH sides of streets. ALL traffic in both directions had to be off the road, on the sidewalk – whatever – not moving, for up to an hour. He didn’t keep a schedule, he just rolled from his home to the capitol office whenever he pleased. And God help you if you foolishly decided to join the convoy.

Google Charles Taylor if you don’t know who he is.

View from the Ducor Palace. Once a beautiful resort, during the civil wars, it was home for thousands of refugees. They are gone now, the palace being readied for renovation.

Signs like these are prevalant throughout the city. This type of crime is a major problem here.

We leave for Sierra Leone tomorrow. Internet connectivity is sketchy. So my next post will probably be from Accra – we stop there again for a few days before returning state side.
