The Friendship Bell from Sapporo, Japan, Portland’s Sister City.
Sapporo, the sister city with which Portland’s officials have cultivated
the most intense contacts, contributed a friendship bell at Portland’s
Convention Center. I was happy to frame this object in cherry blossoms.
There’s a small plaque in the lower wall which reads “Bell Circles II by Robert Coburn
1990 Sounds of Asian bells mark the landscape, orienting the listener to
time and space while expressing the link between Oregon and the Pacific
Rim.” .
