Every year, I get the chance to go back to the desert. Joshua Tree, specifically. For one, I’m part of the annual Art Festival there. And it was at the festival fourteen years ago where I met the man I married.
Now that I’ve done some time in the Northwest (Four winters), I found myself drawing some comparisons between these two places. This area of California is probably the polar opposite from where we live now, in so many ways:
Rainfall
Seattle: 36 inches/year
Joshua Tree: 6 inches/year
Sunny days:
Seattle: 58
Joshua Tree: 267
Politically, they are extremely Conservative (except for the creatives, of which there are a few…)
And where green covers everything in the Northwest, Joshua Tree has sand. Now, I know some of you wouldn’t trade they Northwest for anything, but the lack of trees makes for some stunning vistas. Miles and miles of views. Many people from the “Northwet” (including the Bay Area) come here to dry out and feel a breeze on their otherwise covered arms and legs. It’s worth a visit.
Recently when we go, we stay with one of our artist friends. They own a cute little trailer which is in excellent condition. It’s funky, it’s artsy and it’s cute. I decided to make some creative images of some of what is there. These were made at night with a flashlight. I LOVE how they came out!
