Yep – I got off this ball called Earth for a couple of hours between storms last Saturday. My friend Michael has his Pilot’s License. And the weather was sooo nice yesterday, he just had to go up. And I HAD to go with him. I took LOTS of pictures!
We took off from Whiteman Airport in Sylmar. Flying in a small plane (we had Cessna 172 4 seater) is not much different than riding in a car. When you get airbourne, don’t have all the drama that comes when you take off in a jet. So it’s like, we’re rolling, we’re rolling, we’re rolling, oh – we’re flying now.

It was kinda like a Tour Of the LA Fire Areas. We flew straight out towards Griffith Park, saw exactly how close the burning brush came to those homes (see above image). Then we flew ’round to the Hollywood sign, straight out to the beach along the Santa Monica Mountains, up the coast to Point Dume, then came inland over Fillmore, Westlake Village. Then back down the I-5 over snow covered mountains, Santa Clarita and back into the Valley. We even did a few touch n go’s at the Nation’s Busiest Private Airport – Van Nuys. We used the shorter runway One Six Left as opposed to the more popular One Six Right. A movie was made about this airport.
We got back just in time. Here are some of the pictures I took. More are here:
We really are in the air here…

Pyramid Lake and Castiac in the distance.
