Glanced out the window this morning and saw frost on the roofs. This meant a photo opp and if I wanted to take advantage, I had to be quick about it. The sun was on it’s way over the hill.
Frosted leaves were on my shot list. I knew exactly where to go and what to do: Skip my workout, shower, breakfast, email (but don’t skip feeding Mojo – that would be unacceptable), load up camera with tripod and get my quarry. There’s a scruffy area towards the back of the complex where we live, so I started there. It wasn’t bad, but no leaves of interest. Then I took off for the May Creek area, which is just on the other side of the 405. Scruffiness abounds, with the flowing creek, moss covered trees, wild grasses – and dead leaves rimmed in frost. It’s really nice when you can see what you want to shoot before you shoot it and then actually get it.
I also had a couple of bird encounters. As I was getting out of my truck, a bald eagle flew by with another in hot pursuit. Then chaser attacked the other. There was eagle scream, some talon grappling and then they continued on. They were either in courtship or fighting over territory. The attack took place right behind a large pine tree – sorry, no pics! On my way back from my excursion, I saw my first pileated woodpecker! It was a great morning.
