Day 234

Downtown from the Viaduct, Seattle WA.

The center of a very heated debate, the Alaska Way Viaduct will be shut down to traffic next month (some think it’s an eyesore, some love it for convenience. It’s falling apart and needs to be repaired). This is comparable to the closing of the 405 Fwy in LA, the 405 being a major route between the Westside and the San Fernando Valley. Only instead of only being closed for a weekend, it will be closed for nine long days.

Our very own Carmagedden.

The City of Seattle’s Department of Transportation is hoping that most of the motorists will find alternate routes other than I-5 which roughly parallels the viaduct.

I find the view from the top level of the Viaduct to be one of the top views in Seattle of Elliot Bay, the city itself and the Puget Sound. This shot here shows the view opposite the Bay. I won’t be seeing this view for much longer because it will be gone, when they finally tear down the Viaduct and replace it with a tunnel.
