Trillium, Cougar Mountain Regional Park, WA.
Today was a gorgeous day. So I went for a hike on a nearby trail that goes through the Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park. Usually in the spring, there is a brief window for the sun to reach the forest floor and when the maples leaf out, creating a canopy that cuts out most of the sunlight. This is the only opportunity for forest wildflowers and other forest floor flora to “make busy” with the flowering. This includes trillium. Because spring was so late, I was doubtful that I would see any blooms this year. So imagine my surprise when I found plenty of these beauties in patches along the trail!
