Working Birds – Seen at the Metro Central Hazardous Waste plant, Portland
What a surprise! I was dropping off our empty propane tanks when I passed this cage of raptors. These are various types of falcons used to haze pesky birds like seagulls and crows around trash areas. Last winter, they were used to chase the roosting crows from Downtown Portland. I feel so lucky to be able to see them and photograph them. I spoke to the falconer, named Kort Clayton. I imagine as a birder, this just might be one of the best jobs!
