Today was “explore Oregon” day. We chose the Western Cascade Byway. We had our friend John along. At Clear Lake, we took a short hike through some old growth trees. This was one of the many massive trees that we saw. It was off and on rain, but for the walk it was mostly pleasant. We also found some rare flowers, including a wild orchid.
Bear grass blooms – one of my favorite spring wildflowers.
Wild Yellowleaf Iris – a rare flower. We found it on a sunny slope next to the lake.
Fairy Slippers – a wild orchid. Very rare. It was our lucky day!
